I’m glad I’m not the only one who seems to get that vibe—some call it the “Gary Stu” effect. I’m a little hesitant to throw that term out, though I’ll admit I have before and I probably will again in the future. Mako seems too readily forgiven for his inconsistent actions and with the way the other characters have been stripped of real emotional responses in the recent episode, it feels like we, the audience are expected to forgive him just like the cast and writers have. It’s really just unacceptable to me, though, I can’t buy it. He’s displayed some frankly alarming behaviors for younguns to see forgiven and passed off as, “A young guy just being a young guy.”
